NRC Special Train Services Across Major Routes for Eid-el-Fitr

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced NRC special train services across major routes nationwide to accommodate the expected surge in passengers during the upcoming Eid-el-Fitr celebrations. The Corporation urged travelers to plan their journeys in advance, arrive early at stations, and comply with all ticketing and security procedures to ensure a seamless and safe travel experience. These temporary arrangements are aimed at providing efficient rail transport for Nigerians during the festive period.

According to the NRC, additional trips will operate on high-demand routes, including Lagos–Ibadan and Abuja–Kaduna. On the Lagos–Ibadan corridor, three special trips are scheduled for March 19, 2026. Departures from Mobolaji Johnson Station in Ebute Metta, Lagos, are at 7:40 a.m., 1:40 p.m., and 4:00 p.m., while trains leaving Obafemi Awolowo Station in Moniya, Ibadan, are scheduled for 8:00 a.m., 10:50 a.m., and 4:30 p.m. Similarly, the Abuja–Kaduna line will operate two trips on March 19, followed by three daily trips from March 20 to March 23 to give passengers more flexibility during peak travel days.

The NRC also highlighted its partnership with the Osun State Government to launch the Imole Special Train, which will transport passengers from Iddo Station in Lagos to Osogbo free of charge. This service is fully sponsored by the Osun State Government, while NRC provides rolling stock, operational support, and technical assistance. The initiative reflects the commitment of both the NRC and the state government to ease travel pressures and support citizens during the festive season.

In addition to these temporary services, the Warri–Itakpe corridor will continue with its regular thrice-weekly schedule, maintaining operational efficiency and ensuring that routine maintenance can be performed without disruption. The Port Harcourt–Aba service on the Eastern narrow gauge line will also operate on its usual timetable throughout the Sallah period. This ensures that passengers across all major regions of the country have access to reliable train services during the holiday.

The NRC emphasized that passengers should arrive at stations early, carry valid tickets, and follow all security guidelines to avoid delays. It also assured travelers that every effort has been made to maintain safe and efficient travel conditions, including deploying additional staff, conducting security checks, and monitoring train movements closely.

By implementing these NRC special train services, the Corporation is providing Nigerians with more options for convenient travel during one of the busiest periods of the year. The announcement comes at a time when rail transport continues to gain popularity as a dependable alternative to road travel, offering a more comfortable, punctual, and secure experience. Passengers can expect modern facilities, well-maintained trains, and professional staff throughout their journeys.

The NRC also extended goodwill to Muslim faithful, wishing them a peaceful and joyous Eid-el-Fitr celebration. Citizens were encouraged to take advantage of the special train services and make travel arrangements early to avoid last-minute challenges. With a combination of extra trips, partnerships with state governments, and commitment to operational excellence, the NRC is positioning itself as a reliable option for festive travel across Nigeria.

Through these measures, the NRC special train services aim to reduce travel stress, enhance passenger comfort, and improve safety during peak periods. Travelers across the country can enjoy smoother, more predictable journeys, benefiting both local communities and the larger transportation network. By focusing on efficiency, safety, and customer satisfaction, the Nigerian Railway Corporation demonstrates its dedication to providing high-quality services for all passengers during the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.
